Instead of heating the air around you, what if the furniture itself kept you warm?
That’s the thinking behind Galanter & Jones, the San Francisco–based design studio known for pioneering heated outdoor furniture. Founded in 2012, the company introduced a new category of outdoor seating that blends sculptural design with built-in warmth.
At Terra Outdoor Living, we’re excited to expand our offering of Galanter & Jones pieces, bringing their unique approach to outdoor comfort to more patios, terraces, and backyard living spaces.
Warmth Built Into the Furniture Itself
Unlike traditional patio heaters that warm the surrounding air, Galanter & Jones designs deliver warmth directly through the seat itself.
Each piece incorporates an embedded heating system inside a sculpted cast-stone shell. The furniture produces a gentle radiant warmth that spreads evenly across the seat and back, creating a comfortable cocoon of heat where you actually sit.
The result feels less like standing near a heater and more like settling into a sun-warmed stone.
Because the warmth is directed toward people instead of the air, the system uses far less energy than overhead heat lamps or propane heaters while still delivering cozy comfort on cool mornings or evenings.
In practical terms, it means you can enjoy your patio earlier in the morning, later into the evening, and well into the cooler seasons.
Simple, Elegant Technology
Part of what makes Galanter & Jones furniture appealing is how intuitive it is to use.
There are no apps, remotes, or complicated systems. Each piece simply plugs into a standard outdoor outlet and warms up within minutes.
A simple dial allows you to adjust the temperature to your comfort level, typically ranging from approximately 80 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
The heating elements distribute warmth evenly across the seating surface, eliminating hot spots and creating a consistent, comfortable temperature throughout the chair or sofa.
It’s the kind of thoughtful design that quietly disappears into the experience. Turn it on, sit down, and relax.
Sculptural Design Meets Outdoor Durability
Each seat is handcrafted from glass-fiber reinforced cast stone and mounted on powder-coated steel bases. The material combination creates pieces that feel solid and architectural while remaining durable enough for outdoor use.
GFRC concrete is known for its strength and weather resistance, while also retaining heat efficiently. Over time, the material develops subtle patina and character, much like natural stone in the landscape.
The forms themselves are intentionally ergonomic. Gentle curves and carefully considered seat angles maximize surface contact so warmth reaches your back, legs, and arms, creating a comfortable and supportive seating position.
The result is furniture that feels equally at home in modern architectural spaces, relaxed garden settings, or sophisticated rooftop terraces.
Heated Outdoor Furniture at Terra
Terra Outdoor Living currently carries two standout pieces from the Galanter & Jones collection:
Helios Heated Loveseat
The Helios design is the original Galanter & Jones silhouette and remains one of the most recognizable heated outdoor seating pieces available today.
Kosmos Heated Lounge Chair
What’s New: Expanding the Kosmos Collection
We’re excited to soon expand Terra’s Galanter & Jones assortment with several new additions to the Kosmos family.
Upcoming introductions will include:
- Kosmos Lounge Chairs available in Terra’s exclusive charcoal and dune color finishes
- A new Kosmos Sofa designed for larger outdoor seating arrangements
- Matching Kosmos coffee tables and side tables that complete the look
While the tables themselves are not heated, they maintain the same sculptural cast-stone aesthetic that defines the collection. Together, they create a cohesive outdoor living environment that blends warmth, design, and durability.
Outdoor Living Without the Chill
For many homeowners, the goal of outdoor living is simple: spend more time outside.
Heated outdoor furniture makes that easier than ever.
Instead of relying on bulky patio heaters or gathering around a single fire feature, warmth becomes part of the furniture itself. The experience feels more natural, more personal, and far more comfortable.
Cool mornings become coffee moments on the patio.
Crisp evenings become longer conversations outdoors.
And suddenly the outdoor season feels a whole lot longer.
