At the Duckhorn Collection at Paraduxx in Napa Valley, outdoor spaces are more than just a backdrop. Here they are an integral part of the tasting experience. Tasked with creating environments that could flex seamlessly from intimate tastings to lively group gatherings, MPC Interiors, led by designer Margot Criscitiello, approached the project with a focus on comfort, adaptability, and understated elegance.

The result is a collection of outdoor lounging and dining areas that feel open, intentional, and effortlessly aligned with the Duckhorn brand. These outdoor seating spaces invite guests to settle in, connect, and linger a little longer.

Designing for Flexibility and Flow

“Mobility and flexibility were key—the furniture needed to adapt easily for events and changing layouts.”

From the outset, Paraduxx envisioned outdoor spaces that could accommodate a wide range of guest experiences throughout the day. Rather than relying on a single seating style, the design blends relaxed lounge configurations with more upright, dining-height seating.

This thoughtful mix allows guests to engage with the space in different ways. Whether guests enjoy a quiet tasting, gathering with friends, or participate in larger hosted events, the space retains a welcoming, cohesive feel across the property.

Navigating Site Challenges with Intentional Design

“The goal was a space that feels dynamic, open, and intentional rather than dense.”

One of the primary challenges was scale: creating seating for a high volume of guests without making the space feel crowded or cluttered. The solution came through visual rhythm and balance, layering seating at varied heights, creating defined groupings, and allowing negative space to keep the layout feeling dynamic and breathable.

Environmental considerations also played an important role. Sun exposure, shade patterns, and the realities of a Napa Valley setting informed furniture placement, while open undersides were intentionally selected to discourage unwanted wildlife habitats. Every decision supported a space that feels open, refined, and responsive to its surroundings.

Selecting Furniture That Feels Fresh and Functional

“We were looking for something fresh and different from what you typically see at wineries.”

For this project, MPC Interiors sought something distinct from the traditional winery aesthetic. Terra Outdoor Living stood out for its modern lines, mixed materials, and flexibility, offering a fresh take on outdoor hospitality furniture.

Collections including Pasadena lounge seating, Palm Bistro tables, Presidio dining chairs, and Montara dining tables brought a contemporary sensibility while remaining highly practical. Lightweight yet substantial, the pieces are easy for staff to reconfigure as needed—supporting changing layouts, events, and weather conditions without sacrificing style.

Customization for Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Continuity

Customization played a key role in elevating the final design. Rather than treating the outdoor areas as separate environments, Margot and her team focused on continuity, echoing interior colors, textures, and finishes through custom frame and cushion selections.

This approach creates a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, reinforcing the overall Paraduxx experience and ensuring the furniture feels purpose-built rather than off-the-shelf.

An Elevated Experience, Without the Formality

“The overall look is elevated without feeling formal, very aligned with the Paraduxx guest experience.”

The finished spaces strike a careful balance: light and airy, yet grounded and substantial. The furniture layers beautifully across different zones, creating an atmosphere that feels refined but never stiff.

For Margot, that balance is the standout success of the project. The design aligns effortlessly with Paraduxx’s relaxed, social ethos. The resulting space is elevated enough to feel special, yet comfortable enough to invite guests to truly unwind.

A Positive Response from Guests and Staff Alike

Since completion, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Paraduxx’s team appreciates the adaptability of the furniture, while guests naturally gravitate toward the seating—using it intuitively and socially throughout their visit.

It’s an outdoor seating space designed not just to be seen, but to be lived in. The resulting space subsequently reflects how thoughtful design and well-crafted outdoor furniture can meaningfully enhance the guest experience.
